Fall Must Have’s

I cant believe we thinking of cooler days and new wardrobe essentials already. The summer went way too fast but thankfully there’s still lots of sunshine about however it wont harm to be prepared for when that first wintry chill decides to surprise us and we can tackle it head on without panic or shivers. This fall its all about mixing and matching your basics with your bling. Think Sport Luxe again. Pair a sequinned skirt with a casual sweater or Jogger trousers with heels and a blazer. But more of that and how to style the outfits to come so watch this space. For now lets concentrate on what to add to the wardrobe.

Boots – a knee length pair of riding type boots are a must for wearing over your favourite skinnies or skirts of various lengths. This season brown is bigger than black.  A pair of chelsea boots will never go a miss, wear them for a more casual look. The tassel loafers are great for the office and weekend wear.

Tennis Attire

One of my favourite events on the British Summer calendar has arrived. Wimbledon. I haven’t been for a about three years and I plan on going this Wednesday with some friends. I live about 2 km’s from the entrance so it really is silly not to make the effort.  The entire village is just buzzing with excitement and everyone is out and about in a festive mood.

I would say there are two types of dress code for Wimbledon, they are casual for the people that queue and sit on the grass or stands and then those that are going into the corporate area, members, and guests of players who should probably be dressed a little smarter.  I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from being invited to the corporate area before, endless drinks and food are served, lots of shaded umbrella’s, for when you are not watching a match and most importantly seats to either Centre Court or Court #1.  No matter where you are going to be sitting, queueing or not queueing, you will never be completely sheltered from the possible chance of rain, so always take a rain coat or umbrella.  I would also recommend a hat or wear sunblock, the British summer, believe it or not can be scorching (which it has been lately) and if the forecast is 24 degrees, it actually feels like 30 degrees.  Whilst I sit here and type up this post I have just looked out the window and I see big dark grey clouds forming and a few minutes ago I was burning in the sunshine, so the weather is unpredictable and will change at the drop of a hat, so be prepared.

Here are two selected outfits, 1 for the casual visitor and the other for a smarter look but still feeling comfortable and cool.

If you aren’t lucky enough to be attending in person, a great way to get into the spirit is to throw a wimbledon party, get together for a match, serve strawberries and cream, Pimms and Champagne and all wear tennis attire 😉

Sparkle and Shine

If you read my post here about essential summer wardrobe top up’s you will remember that I mentioned how vital a sparkly top is for the wardrobe.  I was out with friends on Friday night at Jak’s just off the Kings Road (highly recommend for a dinner or a razzle) and we were all commenting on how amazing the sparkly tops looked that we spotted been worn around the venue in the dim lighting .  It just reaffirmed what I was saying, do yourself a favour and get some sparkle or shine onto that spine!  Our friend Tia won the sparkle award for the evening in her gorgeous embellished sleeveless jacket and sparkly shoes!

A great way to style sequins is to tone the sparkly garment down by pairing it with a casual contrasting item. A sparkly skirt with a plain tee or a sequin top with slouchy jeans or trousers.

Sexy Summer Flats

If you’ve got great clothes but don’t have the shoes to match, there’s really no point. Shoes can ruin a look completely. I’m generally more comfortable i flats, especially in summer (surprising for me as I haven’t been blessed in the height department).  Here are some of my chosen shoes for summer that will take your feet from same old to saucy. There are some unexpected styles creeping back in, do not mock the Birkenstock as they have come back a lot cooler and chicer than they were in their past. I will certainly be investing in a pair this summer! Pick your pair for chill-in, cruise-in or shmooz-in for under £150!
