In my opinion formal dress code in winter is by far the most elegant. I love a long sleeve and whilst I find covering an arm up definitely formalises an outfit, its a combination of the style and the fabrics that bring it together perfectly. It is almost impossible not to look chic in all the dark jewelled winter colours, mixed with the luxurious fabrics of velvet, lace, suede and silk, its a sensory overload of texture. Winter is the perfect time of year to send out your posh party invitations.
If you are attending a wedding or any event this winter that requires a higher level of formality and sophistication, that you just won’t hit with a pair of jeans, then be prepared for the onslaught of options.
Layer Up – get onto this trend and wear a skirt over a dress, I love this look and with the correct dress and skirt fabrics and styles you can easily keep this look formal and warm. Love how she brings her look together by matching her lipstick with her shoes(left).
Incorporate your jacket into your outfit, so it’s not a throw on after thought. You can then happily wear it all day knowing it works.
Go Long – wear a statement maxi skirt with a cosy jumper tucked in.
Don’t be afraid to wear trousers. There are some great jumpsuits out there too which is a wonderful option and looks super chic.
I’m a big fan of the monochromatic look for formal occasions. It’s smart and impactful. Make sure you add some spunk to the outfit with a fun clutch bag, killer heels, bright lip or interesting accessories. Shop any of these looks below by clicking directly on the links.
