How to style some of these items to get the best out of them, or wear the exact look above for super chic and on trend understated style. These pieces will be with you for as long as they last, total icons!
So many people say to me, Topshop? Isn’t that for teenagers? Everytime I disagree, there is something in there for everyone! If you looking at the way that Topshop are styling their garments then dont! It can be quite overwhelming and if you don’t know what you are looking for before you enter the store then be prepared to get completely confused and either walk out with all the wrong purchases or perhaps nothing at all. I find that they definitely do style the clothes in a slightly more alternative manner which probably does appeal to the younger generation, but if you look past that and scan the three story flagship store, there is so much in there and absolutely something for everyone! No matter what your age.
Some tips:
1) Have an idea of what you need for when finalising your purchases
2) Walk around with a basket and just grab everything that you like (you can go through it again later and ditch whatever you change your mind about
3) When trying on, decide firstly if the garment fits well and suits you
4) What will you wear it with, you should be able to think of 3 ways to wear it
4) Don’t worry if it’s a trend piece, Topshop is generally good value for money so if the item is out of date next year then you haven’t lost all your savings.
5) If you think it’s too bold or too trendy (but you love it) then think of how you can dress it down. A very sparkly skirt with a tee. A floaty skirt with some plimsolls… etc
Need more convincing? Read this article on Wardrobe Icons about super cool, sickly stylish, 51 year old Kate Phelan who was Fashion Director at British Vogue, was lured by Topshop to become their Creative Director, only to be asked by Vogue again to continue on working for them “part time” as Contributing Editor, holding these two positions, she must know a thing or two about style and fashion, no!
The store makes me so excited and I am converting clients all the time, young and old(er). I have been so surprised at how many girls have said to me they never shop there because they never know what to buy or they felt that it was too trendy! Here are some of my favourite picks from the store right now. In fact there is so much that I love, that picking a few pieces was actually a ridiculous task for me but as I scanned the website these are the few that I know I do adore, having just seen them in the flesh on Saturday (plus so much more)….

I don’t think about it all year around and then spring arrives and I see it all over and reminds me that even though I never wear it and think I don’t really like pink, I actually do. I love pink. Who doesn’t like pink!?! So this was reiterated again when this last week I spent quite a bit of time with a client who really loves pink. She’s one of those true pink fans, you know the ones that need to be told that they don’t need another pink tee, and their response is “but it’s not the same” 💕💗 I mean it in the best way possible. She loves every shade of pink. I want to thank her for reminding me how gorgeous pink is and how some shades really do compliment my skin tone! If you think you cannot wear pink, think again. Everyone can wear pink you just need to pick the right tone for your skin, so whether it’s rose, blush, fuscia, cerise, salmon, coral, magenta (the list goes on) there’s one out there for you.
Last year I spotted a gorgeous dress, I loved it for the style and not the colour (so I thought) then I tried it on and fell in love with the pale rose colour. However I did not make the purchase, I couldn’t think of an occasion that I was going to use it for so very sensibly put it back (doesn’t sound like me at all) and I kind of regret it! I have picked out some pretty pink items that I love and hopefully you do too.
I was looking up the date of the clocks going forward when I came across all these suggestions of what do do with the extra hour of light (as if we need help but anyway), they were pretty lame suggestions such as go to the park, have a bbq, go for an evening walk, sit in the garden, hang your washing outside..etc etc. however, clearly when jotting down these suggestions down no consideration went into the fact that the clocks will change but the weather won’t!
So we thinking, It’s nearly April, the Clocks have changed, lets wear Spring/Summer clothes and pretend it’s all ok. Unfortunately the temp is what we are really feeling and the fact that it’s averaged about 10 degrees over the last two weeks hardly has me reaching for my spring dresses. So if you feeling so over that winter coat but like me are ridiculously sensitive to the chilly temps, then layer up to conceal the fact that you still in winter mode. Put that padded coat in the loft (if you dare), bring out your light weight jacket, but under that layer up. Starting with a thermal camisole, then your shirt or long sleeve top of choice, then the thicker jumper (sleeves pulled up) or a cosy long cardi or a jacket which is roomy enough for all those layers then chuck on the Trench/light weigh Mac. Make sure the layers are all different lengths and visible, otherwise you may just look puffy…

Denim is branching out into bags, shoes, belts and more. This is not the first time we’ve seen denim heels on the streets but I guess each time the trend reappears the actual denim jeans that we are sporting are themselves in a different phase. There’s a lot trending in the way of denim at the moment and if you are enjoying your skinnies, boyfriends, girlfriends, ripped or even flared then you’re spot on. The great thing about the large variety of styles trending right now is that it’s difficult to get bored of wearing your jeans when we can mix them up so, a different style for each day of the week!
I’m looking for a great pair of white jeans at the moment. Now I don’t know about you but I personally feel that unless you have the skinniest of pins, with a gap the length of a small ruler between your thighs and a perkier butt than Gisele, the White skinnies should be left for the runway. So I’ve started perusing the girlfriend line of jean… this is not too baggy and not a straight leg either, maybe it’s neither here nor there but what I’ve tried I have liked 🙂 and the pair I’m probably going to put my money on is this Current/Elliot pair.
Some denim items to covet now are endless but for now make sure to get yourselves one, some, or all of the following:
A denim jacket J Crew
A denim dress Stella McCartney (currently looking for a cheaper version of this beauty)
Denim dungarees Zara
A denim skirt Net-a-Porter
A great pair of ripped, girlfriend or boyfriend or 70’s flares (for the more adventurous) Some faves: Straight Leg J Crew // Flip flop Flares Current/Elliot // Patch work boyfriend J Crew // Ripped Zara // Skinny Maternity J Brand
And if you’re feeling up to it, a denim play suit Mango
I leave you with some Looks to Love below.
You go off and have a rethink about this reputable blue cloth now! 😉
