The New Jean Silhouette

Well it’s hardly brand new but it’s certainly taken some time to get us creatures of habit out of our skinnies!

Some of us would have been wearing a high rise jean for some time (a skinny high rise).   But how on earth have these skinnies fill up our jean rails for the last decade + ? Not a glimmer of hope or a bat of an eyelid for any other style.  A much needed change of jean silhouette was needed, and what better way to bring the denim back to life with the best authentic, lived in real jean look that the likes of Levi’s, gave everyone back in the 70’s, a real bum, and a longer leg.  Be it cropped or full length you absolutely have to get real again and get your non stretch, hard wearing, straight leg, high waisted jean on!

Whilst sussing out some perfect pics to get you all onboard I came across two articles that I found highly entertaining and thought I would share a snippet of both.  I have to say if you read the full article by Man Repeller, she doesn’t instil much confidence as far as the comfort levels go but believe me, mine are oh so comfy, and whilst the eating factor is absolutely true, if I eat a little I find myself with this little kangaroo type pouch between my button and my “you know what”.  Regardless, Im in love!

Man Repeller wrote:

“There is nothing more enticing than the prospect of encasing my loin fruits in a suction cup of denim that fastens right below the ribcage. I pull the 11-inch zipper up slowly, relishing in the compact delight of two halves of this delicious Levi’s sandwich becoming one, circling my torso in a perfectly sized love lock. I look in the mirror. A hologram of Ryan Gosling dips a finger in the blood of my enemies and writes on the glass, “Hey girl, did you swap butts with a young Brooke Shields or are you just wearing your favorite high-waist jeans?”

Vogue Wrote:

“Rigid, 100 per cent cotton denim jeans – the original androgynous utility staple – have been overlooked during the decade-long rise of stretchy, spray-on skinnies. How did these clingy, wafer-thin, denim-ish imposters, which are not actually jeans, achieve world domination? They fed our weakest desires for a teenage sort of comfort and provided the illusion of a lean figure, instantly. Somehow it had become acceptable to wear a pair of mock-denim leggings with belt loops and fake rips at the knees outside the house for the sake of that streamlined silhouette. Impatience also played a part.”

Brides on a Budget

If your’e next in line to walk down the aisle I would count yourself lucky (when it comes to the dress department).  Never has there been such a wonderful array of dresses on offer from the high street.  Brides on a budget have so much choice from an ever expanding bridal collection, from Topshop to Whistles, to ASOS to name only a few, you actually wonder why even those NOT on a budget would bother spending large sums of money, that is how good the options are!  I have narrowed down some of my favourites (which may not be yours) but hopefully a link may open the door to your perfect dress minus the hefty price tag….

To me the fabric used to make this dress is absolutely everything, the most delicate lace that has a small foil print all over is so intricate and different.  For the unconventional bride! I also think this style would suit a small bust because of the low neckline and wrap style front. Shop here

This elegant dress is a combination of romance and simplicity and would in my opinion take everyones breath away.  Perhaps for the slightly taller silhouette having the empire line. Or maybe even a the perfect style for a bride who’s expecting 😉 Shop here

The Shoe Edit

How many times have you had the perfect outfit but just haven’t had the shoes to go or seen someone looking great only to look down at their feet and just thought how horrendous their choice of shoe was… Shoes are sometimes the trickiest part of pulling the outfit together and can often ruin an outfit, probably because we don’t have an endless supply of colours, styles and comfort to work with the many various outfit options going on in our wardrobes.  Some people are shoe people and others really struggle to find good shoes. I find this such a problem with so many clients, everyone has trouble finding good shoes, when budgets are real, good quality options are limited.  Another thing I find is so many people have feet issues, whether its a different feet sizes, issues or injuries meaning they cant wear heels, feet sweating in synthetic materials, broad feet, narrow feet, extra high arches, bunions… you get my drift.  Some general tips would be to always buy real leather (if possible), comfort is key and its very obvious when someone is uncomfortable in their shoes, the shoe style suiting a body shape, and also not just following trends in shoes.  Just because your foot doesn’t have a “big bum or skinny legs” scenario doesn’t mean anything goes.  If the shoe style does not suit you, don’t buy it!

Some just despise shoe shopping, so I’ve done the shoe haul.  There is a serious shoe game out at the moment. Enjoy this browsing experience made easy, from high street to high end, trendy to classic, there’s a shoe or two out there for you (;) ) ! Happy shopping X

Summer Sandals

I stumbled upon the most magnificent mismatched pair of sandals this week (featured image) and after hunting them down (they live in Australia…)  I have come to the realisation that I may not be able to own a pair, down to tricky sizing, getting them here, risking them not fitting after getting them here, not being able to return them and having a lovely pair of incredibly expensive sandals sitting in my closet. And on second thoughts, maybe all that would be worth it in the event that they do actually fit, in which case the mission and cost would totally be worth it.

Whilst I feel none of the below even slightly compare to these beauties (in my eyes) here are some pretty cool easy going summer sandals that can be found on the high streets of SA.  I personally love a tan coloured sandal, I think it complements “a tan” and goes with the entire wardrobe, style permitting.

Winners for comfort – Solillas. They come in a massive range of colours I do love these sparkly ones.  I haven’t come across this brand in SA yet but I have seen replicas in other stores (can’t guarantee the comfort of the non- Solillas however)

Looking forward to perfectly pedicured tanned feet again 🙂

My favourite seasons

This is probably the last post I will do for a while that will benefit both my Southern and Northern Hemisphere friends.  We’re getting closer to similar temperatures (well probably still about 10 degrees difference) but a Northern Hem person pretends to feel warmer when they see the sun and a Southern Hem person gets chilly way too easily.

Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons for dressing, the perfect temperature for all the things I love to wear.  Its cropped trouser weather (perfect 5ft3 leg length choice), Macs (another fave of mine) little cropped jackets (think boucle, denim, military style), fun shoes without sweaty feet or freezing feet (depending on where you live) pointed flats and best of all no bulky coats.  I really am NOT a fan of coats.

So how to wear all of the above.  The options are endless. Roll up the chino (hot trend) wear with anything from white sneakers to heels.  Add a collared shirt and earrings for a smarter look or a t-shirt and denim jacket for something more casual.  Wear shorts with a knitted jumper and military green jacket.  Pair an embroidered 3/4 dress with ankle boots and a Mac.  Need I say more.  Shop the season’s picks below!

Wear a pair of ankle boots with this Embroidered Dress for those drizzly days and throw a Mac overtop.

These Tassel Sandals will look super cute with rolled up chinos if weather permits.

I adore this Ruffle Sleeve Top  worn with anything from skinny jeans, to chinos, smarter trousers or tucked into a skirt. Love the statement sleeves!

Rolled up Chinos are such a hit this season and so versatile.  Wearing them with heels looks so chic as does a pair of sneakers for a dress down edge.

Pop these ultra cool Comme des Garçons sneakers on with absolutely anything you fancy, they will work!

The military trend that never dies, this vintage army jacket  is great for cool weather when there’s a chill in the air. Every closet needs one.
