The Shoe Edit

How many times have you had the perfect outfit but just haven’t had the shoes to go or seen someone looking great only to look down at their feet and just thought how horrendous their choice of shoe was… Shoes are sometimes the trickiest part of pulling the outfit together and can often ruin an outfit, probably because we don’t have an endless supply of colours, styles and comfort to work with the many various outfit options going on in our wardrobes.  Some people are shoe people and others really struggle to find good shoes. I find this such a problem with so many clients, everyone has trouble finding good shoes, when budgets are real, good quality options are limited.  Another thing I find is so many people have feet issues, whether its a different feet sizes, issues or injuries meaning they cant wear heels, feet sweating in synthetic materials, broad feet, narrow feet, extra high arches, bunions… you get my drift.  Some general tips would be to always buy real leather (if possible), comfort is key and its very obvious when someone is uncomfortable in their shoes, the shoe style suiting a body shape, and also not just following trends in shoes.  Just because your foot doesn’t have a “big bum or skinny legs” scenario doesn’t mean anything goes.  If the shoe style does not suit you, don’t buy it!

Some just despise shoe shopping, so I’ve done the shoe haul.  There is a serious shoe game out at the moment. Enjoy this browsing experience made easy, from high street to high end, trendy to classic, there’s a shoe or two out there for you (;) ) ! Happy shopping X

Shades of Pink

I don’t think about it all year around and then spring arrives and I see it all over and reminds me that even though I never wear it and think I don’t really like pink, I actually do. I love pink. Who doesn’t like pink!?! So this was reiterated again when this last week I spent quite a bit of time with a client who really loves pink. She’s one of those true pink fans, you know the ones that need to be told that they don’t need another pink tee, and their response is “but it’s not the same” 💕💗 I mean it in the best way possible. She loves every shade of pink. I want to thank her for reminding me how gorgeous pink is and how some shades really do compliment my skin tone! If you think you cannot wear pink, think again. Everyone can wear pink you just need to pick the right tone for your skin, so whether it’s rose, blush, fuscia, cerise, salmon, coral, magenta (the list goes on) there’s one out there for you.

Last year I spotted a gorgeous dress, I loved it for the style and not the colour (so I thought) then I tried it on and fell in love with the pale rose colour. However I did not make the purchase, I couldn’t think of an occasion that I was going to use it for so very sensibly put it back (doesn’t sound like me at all) and I kind of regret it! I have picked out some pretty pink items that I love and hopefully you do too.

Have a good week x

Spring Transitions

Casual Comforts is how Im feeling right now.  The temps should be warming up later in the week, and gradually more so as April inconspicuously springs it’s pretty self upon us, but as we transition across to Spring it’s difficult to start breaking out into skirts without tights, short sleeves and god forbid we need to get those winter feet out into sandals! This outfit will keep you at the perfect temp, has the right amount of ventilation without showing any skin but still looking stylish and slightly sexy in a comfortable manner, no?! I love the flattering jeans with the wide weaved knit which has a lowish V-back. You will be hitting the ground running in the style steaks with these open sided shoes which are bang on trend, again feeling less wintery but without really putting the white feet on show completely! Grab your hand held clutch and a chunky ring and you’re looking ever so covetable.  Remember feeling comfortable is the key to looking confident and good.  It’s my pleasure!

5 Fashion Items that get better with age

Vogue recently published an article about fashion items that are made to last (view it here). It’s something I think about all the time and get asked about all the time by my clients.  Everyone out there will have a different opinion on what they would spend their money on and what items they would choose to own that would last forever.

There are so many gorgeously important items that I believe get better with age and are almost not as nice new as they are after a couple of worn years.  These are my picks on what I would invest in.

1.Goes without saying, a good quality leather handbag.  Choose a colour that works for your wardrobe and a colour that is versatile and preferably neutral, grey, tan, black.. The older the leather gets the better the bag looks and feels.

Two bags of my choice would be a tote and a smaller shoulder bag. The Balenciaga classic has always been one of my personal fave’s, the fact that I still like it after about 10 years clearly means something and the Bottega Veneta shoulder bag as below.  Both simple and classic.  A beautiful evening bag with a gold or silver chain strap would be another favourite but in terms of getting more wear, these two would win.

2. A good solid bangle, be it silver, gold, whatever metal you choose.  I had the most beautiful rounded tube like silver bangle which fitted my wrist perfectly but it had an opening and somehow it fell off my arm, I have been so upset about it and am still hunting down the perfect bangle to take it’s place. I think this time I will replace it with a rose gold one.  I like to find jewellery in unexpected places. So not your usual jewellery stores but at markets or on overseas trips.  I think it is far more romantic and gives the pieces a bit of a story.  Hence my search continues!

3. A good old pair of straight cut Levi’s. They will never ever date. I was wearing straight cut Levi’s when I was 14 and I still wear straight cut Levi’s. They go with everything, can be dressed up and down. That said find your brand and cut that works for you and invest! Other fave jean brands that work for me are J Brand, Pepe, AG and Current Elliot

4. Leather Jacket. This specific leather jacket style I love but leather jackets don’t need to be devilishly expensive and you can find amazing leather jackets in vintage stores or on the high street. I have one vintage one which I bought the first year I arrived in London and two high street jackets which look and feel a lot more expensive than they were. In fact my black one looks almost exactly like the one below.

5. The perfect soft jumper. Now this is something that sadly won’t last as long (well not for public appearances anyway) so should be replaced every couple of years but is so important to have.  The jumper should compliment you, not make you feel frumpy but at the same time you should be able to wear it any day of the week and feel not only cosy but also amazing. Jumpers should not drown your figure or be pilled.

Hopefully this will help you think again when you want to buy another cheap fashion item. Don’t get me wrong I am all for trends and buying what’s in now but maybe it’s time to invest in a few good pieces too every now and then.

Beach Basics – Less is More

Every year when we go away on holiday, I always, always overpack! And whenever the next trip arises, I seem to forget how much of my suitcase went unused the last time we went away.  I find especially on beach holidays, this is always the case! This time my husband said to me, we are taking 1 suitcase (between 3 of us)!!!! 20kg’s!!!!! My response: are you crazy… and started rattling off everything I needed to pack for Oliver, but I was actually panicking more about what I could pack for myself.  Then I remembered how little we actually use when we go to the beach, cozzies, and not much else is actually needed. I am also now pregnant again so hardly anything fits me, that was another saver as I literally had to pack what I could get into (not much). I have compiled a few holiday essentials for the average girl out there planning a chilled beach holiday with no dressing up.. 😉

You don’t need more than 3 sunblocks, one for the entire family, one for the face, this Clarins one we love as it’s non oily and works really well.  I like a spray for my body rather than cream, its easier and quicker to apply. When it comes to make-up, as with everything else, less is more.  All you need is a tinted moisturiser and a good lip balm.  Forget the mascara, blusher, hair spray etc, it all slides off in the heat anyway and sea water does wonders to give you those bouncy beach curls. Do ensure to condition everyday to protect the hair.

2 or 3 bikinis/costumes is ample. Make sure you can mix and match the tops and bottoms and it will feel like you are wearing a different one everyday. I always take more bottoms and maybe two tops but make sure the bottoms can go with all the tops. Get a mix and match of your favourite tones going.

Dress or playsuit cover ups are easy to pack and it means you are packing one item rather than tops and bottoms. Easy to throw on too when going from beach to restaurant.

Shoes, Hats, Accessories etc. Use your beach bag/basket as your hand luggage, as they are nice and big you can chuck a lot in there.  Wear your clumpiest shoes for the journey (my feet also get cold on aeroplanes so I always like to wear closed shoes). Wear all your accessories and your hat 😉 These sarong’s are the best, they are so useful, can be used to lie on at the beach, dry yourself with them, use it as a scarf/pashmina or just as a sarong. I have gazillions of them in different colours but really you just need one.

Denim shorts are just like jeans for summer. They are an investment! You will wear them year after year. Find a good pair that suit your figure. They come in so many different lengths and styles and like jeans can be dressed up or down, worn with heels or flats and never crease or show the dirt.

Handbag essentials

I think I would feel like I’m doing myself no favours what so ever if I left the house without all these bad boys in my handbag for a day at work. Those hot days in the city can be brutal especially when traipsing in and out of the tube stations, you find yourself arriving at work feeling less than fresh.  Not only do you feel like you have run to work in your clothes and you could do with a second shower by 9am but your hair also looks like you haven’t washed it for 5 days. The sunglasses are there to help with that glare bright and early and save your eyes from the harsh UV rays.  These mirrored sunnies of course also look super hot! The Oribe dry texturising spray will put the volume back into your locks and ensure it is smelling fresh and clean again.  A spritz of your favourite scent is a MUST for feeling confident when chatting to your work colleagues and for after work social events. Help revive your skin with a healthy looking glow with my favourite bronzer which gives you the perfect amount of colour no matter what your skin tone, this Chanel bronzer is the best I have come across.  I find at the end of the day there is nothing better than stepping out the office and swapping your killer heels or closed shoes for a pair of comfortable flip flops to walk home in, having the feet free will instantaneously cool down your whole body.  And the scarf…if the unpredictable weather hits then turn to a neutral toned scarf, it is the perfect accessory to wrap around any outfit.  Especially for after work drinks. Scarves are also investment pieces and I believe buying a few good quality timeless print scarves can be used for decades to come (also a great gift).
