New Dress Code Round Up

To say I’ve been obsessing about purchases over the last few months would be an understatement.  I’ve thought, dreamt and physically tired myself out over finding what I think I’m going to want and need living a new lifestyle in a completely different climate to the past 11 years in London.

Two things I know is, it’s casual and it’s hot! Of course there are always going to be those very few (probably not that necessary but couldn’t resist) purchases that have egged their way into the basket (managing to get hold of the inner fashion goddess spirit and the head is nowhere to be seen or heard!) But overall I’ve been wise, pulled myself together, talked some sense to the wild free spirited side of the brain and managed to refrain from the fairly left-field decisions that I sometimes like to make when it comes to dressing.  On the occasions where I haven’t managed to hold back, generally upon arriving home and rethinking my decisions I have have managed to return these so called wild idea purchases, however, sometimes with great reluctance….

I have no problem advising others what to buy but when it comes to myself I deliberate forever.

I have curated a couple of pieces and whilst this is a very small selection of my super spree, it’s a little round up of what the future dress code will look like.  These I believe are all wardrobe staples and will hopefully be with me for many years to come.  You would think I was moving to the middle of the outback the way I am banging on as if I am never going to walk into a store again, which of course is NOT the case, however I do know that South Africa is not cheap and I am going to kick myself if I find I’m needing a white linen tee, searching for weeks on end for starters to find “the one” and when finding it spending half my family’s food budget on buying the simple item.  Whereas here, I know where to get it, I know it’s not going to break the bank and I know what the quality is going to be.

As you may have gathered I am rather meticulous about fit and fabric, and will scrutinise most of what I purchase, which my poor husband has had to succumb to and bear the brunt of my ongoing explanations and reason’s of why I don’t feel that a particular item is not right.  (rolling his eyes, crying inside because he’s desperately wanting the search to be over).  Not only have I been doing this for my wardrobe, but for the boys and our home interiors….needless to say I think he is completely and utterly over shopping.  I would like to add that he has been an absolute star and great resource for sourcing certain items for us, I hold his opinion in high regard and have so enjoyed having such a big input from him in all the decisions that we have made from rugs, crockery and lighting to boys toys, and my running shoes and goodness knows what else.

It’s going to be a completely different way of dressing but I’m certainly looking forward to it; simple, comfortable and beachy with hopefully a need for a touch of elegance, cooler weather and (glamour) every now and then when I get to bring out the dusty rose faux fur, 4″ heels and crocodile leather evening bags ;-).  For now I’m so ready for sandals, shorts, and baskets.

Currently coveting…and can’t wait to get back into

I cannot wait to get back into normal clothes again. I am so tired of wearing comfy pants and baggy tops and flat shoes and not buying anything because it’s a total waste! All I can do now is dream about what I want to wear when I hopefully get back to my old size (it could be a while still)

A beautiful skirt into the waist! I love this pleated leather skirt worn with a sexy pair of heels is a seriously covetable look this winter.

I really want a camel coat this winter but no point in getting it just yet!

Getting back into my skinny’s, and I think a new pair of J Brands is definitely on the cards 😉

Boyfriend jeans always look better with a top tucked in slightly or something a little shorter, not very flattering with a preggie belly! Love the relaxed look.

For me a simple silk shirt and jeans was always a go to outfit that always looks smart without much effort, wearing these blouses again without looking like Im smuggling pillows would be great

This is the easiest outfit ever! Throw it on, pair with heels and clutch or flats for a more relaxed look and voila. Ultra chic!

But in the mean time I will have to stick to my black leggings, oversized shapeless tops, and slip on sneakers (which I do love I should add) I posted them a few weeks ag0 and after much interest on where I got them, they are Carvela (see below)

A Firm Favourite

Ever heard me say every closet needs a denim shirt? Well every closet needs a denim shirt!!!! So many ways to wear it and you will look instantly cool….

1)Wear buttoned up for a Texan vibe (not recommended in summer)

2) Wear it unbuttoned to mid chest with sleeves rolled up and very open for a cool summer feel with shorts and a pair of ultra chic shades.

3) Wear it completely unbuttoned over a cami or dress as a little jacket

4) Wear it with jeans for the trendy denim on denim look

5) Looks amazing with leather!

Just wear it however you feel comfortable!  Some of my favourites available to purchase below:

On a separate note. If you have been wondering why my blog posts have decreased of late, this is because I have taken on a slightly different type of styling project.  I am trying my hand at interior decorating and am working on 3 apartments at the moment. I’m thoroughly enjoying it and whilst it’s still creative and design, it’s a lot more technical than dressing! This is what’s taking up most of my time at the moment (other than my son ;-)… I will update you with the project as we get further along the line and may even post some pics of the finished project!

Hope you are all having a happy week!
